Porche buy Williams – just a rumour?

F1 fans on social media were sent into a frenzy on Monday morning when Porsche, the German carmaker, posted a cryptic message on its Instagram account for Formula E. The automotive giant deleted all its previous posts and uploaded a new video that hinted at an upcoming announcement on Monday. This has led to speculation of a potential partnership with Williams Racing in the F1 community.

Williams - Austria 2022

Porsche has been linked with Williams Racing in recent months, following the collapse of the car brand’s partnership with Red Bull. Reports indicate that the team’s owners, Dorilton Capital, have been searching for investment and may be open to selling the team. This has led to speculation that Porsche could be a potential buyer and partner for Williams Racing in the F1 circuit.

Despite the rumors and speculations, Williams Racing has denied any current plans to announce a deal with Porsche. A spokesperson for the team stated, “The rumors that Williams Racing is up for sale are inaccurate.” This has put the speculation of a partnership between the two parties to rest for now.

They did go on to say “We are open to any discussions regarding the supply of engines with manufacturers from 2026 when the new engine regulations come in. We are happy with our relationship with Mercedes and appreciate all their efforts.”
